WINE & ART - THE MAGIC WORLD OF OIL PAINTING IN TUSCANY
3 DAY – Brunello Winery Visit & the Abbey of Sant’Antimo
Enjoy an Italian breakfast under the Tuscan sun this morning and then have a short drive to visit a producer of Brunello wine. You can’t visit Montalcino without learning a little something about how Brunello di Montalcino is made. You will learn why this wine can be aged for so long, and other interesting facts. After a short walk throughthe vineyards, we will go down to the most sacred place in the winery: the cellar. Snap a few pictures of the huge Slavonian oak barrels and then go back for a wine tasting. You will be offered 3-5 wines, including Brunello di Montalcino of two different vintages, Rosso di Montalcino, Riserva and some IGTs.
After the wine tasting we will stop to see the beautiful Sant’Antimo abbey. This gorgeous “pearl” of Romanesque architecture was built with local travertine stone, and proudly stands among the olive trees. In the church you can hear the monks, dressed in white as a symbol of their devotion to the Virgin Mary, sing in Gregorian chant.
For lunch I have chosen a cozy restaurant in the surroundings of Montalcino.
After lunch we will continue with our second painting lesson.
