Brunello Wine Tour
Whether you’re a novice in the world of wine or you’re already an expert and have tried wines from all over the world and know your tannins from your acidity, this trip is for you!
This short wine tour lets you enjoy famous wines and gives you the opportunity to learn the difference between Brunello and Vino Nobile wines, to taste rare and delicious wines from the “Orcia” DOC region, and taste a strong grappa and a sweet Moscadello and Vin Santo.
You will learn why Brunello is so famous and what its main characteristics are; you’ll learn about its production methods and how the winemaker harvests the grapes and then ages the wine until it reaches perfection. After the wine tasting you can create your own preference list (and maybe buy a bottle or two to take home!).
Food is also important, and you will taste traditional dishes from Montalcino and the rest of Tuscany in the most interesting and delicious restaurants of the area. You will also get to know the medieval (and photogenic) towns of Montalcino, the “ideal” city of Pienza, and historical Montepulciano.
You will be shown the entire process of wine-making, from the vineyard, to harvesting the grapes, initiating the primary processing, fermentation, vinification, and eventually aging and packaging. After that, you get to taste! You will be offered 2 different vintages of Brunello di Montalcino, a younger Rosso di Montalcino, and some blends.

Guided visit of a winery which produces “Orcia” denomination wines. You will taste wines based on the Sangiovese grape, as well as different blends with Merlot and Cabernet. Visit San Quirico and Pienza.

We will head off to learn all about the famous wine called Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Visit the renowned Contucci cellar for a wine tasting of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. We’ll take you on a walk around Montepulciano. Lunch with wine tasting at the Avignonesi winery.

| THE PRICE INCLUDES
Accommodation for 4 nights, based on your choice; all Breakfasts (if you have special requests please let us know, since Italian breakfast is basically bread and/or pastries with coffee or tea and yogurt); all lunches, including a glass of wine in typical restaurants; 4 wine tastings with private winery visit (you will taste 3-5 different wines at each winery); all transfers with accompanying English-speaker living in Tuscany. The price doesn’t include transfers to and from Montalcino, so please let us know where you will be coming in from and if you would like us to arrange something for you. Dinners and airport transfer are not included in the price. |

We like to choose places that don’t cater to tourists and that have excellent food. On the Day 2 wine tasting, you can choose to have Brunello wine instead of the Orcia DOC, in which case you will taste 3-5 different wines, including Brunello di Montalcino If you have already done a wine tasting in the region, please let us know with whom so we can avoid repetition. We prefer small, non-commercial wineries to make sure you have a special experience. The itinerary is flexible and can be tailored to suit your particular interests or the time of year. Just let us know what you would like and we will do our best to accommodate you. P.S. Should your trip coincide with any special local festivities, like a jazz or wine fest, or an opera or concert, I will let you know in advance in case you would like to include that in your tour. |
